Once again spring is just around the corner and I know you are wondering what to do on the first weekend of May. Spring Fling is just the thing. Get yourselves all pumped for CCBR’s premier event of May, 2015.
This year we have a new location for the Fling. We will be riding to the American River Resort in Coloma, situated on Highway 49 between Auburn and Placerville.
Coloma is located at an elevation of 791 feet and has everything you want in an historic gold mining town.
On January 24, 1848, an event occurred in Coloma that would radically impact the history of California and the Nation. James W. Marshall was building a sawmill for Captain John Sutter, using water from the South Fork of the American River. He noticed several flakes of metal in the tailrace water and recognized them to be gold. Though he tried to keep it a secret, the word spread quickly, and triggered the California Gold Rush of 1849.
Olde Coloma Theatre
Olde-tyme melodramas are performed Friday and Saturday nights from April to December. Come boo, hiss and cheer! Great for all ages. 380 Monument Road 530-626-5282
What’s included? Friday and Saturday night camping with the Sierra Rizing Bakery catering Saturday night's BBQ dinner. Dinner will consist of BBQ sausage or chicken, spinach salad, citrus dressing, Orzo salad with sun dried tomatoes and peas, and red potato salad. (Supply your own beverage). Then on Sunday morning, enjoy a catered continental breakfast as well as cooked Brocolli and cheddar and ham and Swiss quiche, granola and yogurt. Between meals, CCBR will have the bottomless coffee urn going so everyone can be well caffeinated. Hot showers? Sure thing. There are BBQ pits and fire rings so bring marshmallows and anything else you want to consume around the fire: use your imagination.
